Murder in West Bay Fri (23) – One week Appeal – Walk through Tonight

Between 10:00pm and Midnight tonight Friday 30 January 2015, detectives from the West Bay Police Station  – CID will be conducting a one week walk through  since the murder of David Ebanks in the vicinity of Kelly’s Bar, Birch Tree Hill.

The purpose of the walk through, is to identify further potential  witnesses to the murder and appeal to persons with information to come forward.

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service can now release the name of the young man who was murdered on Friday, 23rd January 2015 as 20-year-old David Reuben Ebanks of West Bay.

Mr. Ebanks was fatally shot while standing outside a popular take-out restaurant on Birch Tree Hill in West Bay at approximately 11.05 pm on Friday night.

Detective Chief Inspector Malcolm Kay stated, “This is the second senseless killing in West Bay this month. I would like to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the shooting who has not been contacted by the police to come forward. We are interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen a four door silver or gray, Hyundai Accent motor vehicle in the West Bay area anytime before the shooting that day. This vehicle may have been unusual to the area; its driver was seen driving slowly and erratically in the area before the shooting. Any information however small you may think it is could be vitally important to us in solving this murder”.

West Bay CID is investigating the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old resident of West Bay. On Friday, 23rd January 2015 at about 11:36 pm 911 received a report of a male lying on the ground near a premises on Birch Tree Hill Road and across from Kelly’s Bar.

RCIPS personnel, EMTs and a doctor attended the scene and rendered first aid, but the victim was unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the doctor.

Anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or who may have information that could assist the Detectives with their investigation is asked to contact West Bay CID at 649-3990, the RCIPS tip-line 949-7777 or Crime Stoppers on 800-8477(TIPS).
