Jamaican in Cayman Islands sentenced to six months for importing ganja

From rjr news online

A Jamaican man who was nabbed in Cayman after importing ganja was this week sentenced to six months imprisonment.

27 year old Marvin Campbell was also sentenced to one month concurrent for illegal landing when he appeared in court on Monday.

His co-accused 49 year old Dencle Vic Barnes was sentenced last month to nine months imprisonment for importing ganja and a further six months, consecutive for human smuggling for bringing the Jamaican to Cayman without authorization from immigration authorities.

The court was told that the police carried out an investigation on December 22 last year after two men were observed aboard a blue and white Jamaican canoe off the coast of Bodden Town.

They found 4-point-3 pounds of ganja on the vessel.

The magistrate ordered that the boat be forfeited to the Crown.
