From Presna Latina

KTSA

San Jose, May 8 (Prensa Latina) The National Emergency Commission (CNE) decreed this Wednesday green alert (preventive) for the Caribbean and northern Costa Rica due to heavy rains caused by the presence of an Intertropical Convergence Zone.

Since Tuesday we have had reports of landslides and slight overflows in the area of Perez Zeledon, Golfito, Buenos Aires, Pococi, as well as, the rivers Sixaola and Chirripo are reported to have grown, which is why the CNE issues its alert number 12′, said to the press the Head of Research and Risk Analysis of that entity, Lidier Esquivel.

Esquivel also said that in the sectors listed, is expected to fall between 25 and 30 millimeters of rain in a three-to six hour period , while in the Pacific coast the rains tend to decrease.

For this preventive phase, the CNE recommends that the population be cautious on the roads due to possible landslides and wet pavement, as well as abide by the instructions issued by official institutions.

On the other hand, the National Meteorological Institute forecasts that during this Wednesday the downpours and rains will continue throughout the national territory, due to the presence of the referred Intertropical Convergence Zone.
