Govts blamed for not willing to share

From Nation News Barbados

IF REGIONAL GOVERNMENTS were more forthcoming, the Caribbean would have a lot less issues, said the head of the regional body representing labour.

During the lunch break of its annual general council meeting yesterday, held in the Barbados’ Workers Union Solidarity House, president of the Caribbean Congress of Labour (CCL), Jennifer Isaacs-Drayton, chastised some regional administrations for withholding information from organisations such as hers, information necessary for progress.

“I think in many of our countries, the lack of Government sharing information with their social partners – the workers, the employers . . . we would not have had many of the issues which have been raised regarding things like the CARIFORUM/EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) because the social partners would have been at the table to negotiate it. (CA)
