Motor Vehicle Collision Involving a Pedestrian

Just before noon today 6 September, police and other emergency personnel were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communication Centre, to a vehicle collision involving a white Kia Sportage SUV and a pedestrian.

The incident took place on Shedden Road, in front of the George Town Post Office.

The woman was taken to the hospital by the ambulance and was treated for minor injuries and released.

The collision is being investigated by the police.

 

Man Arrested after Recklessly Driving through George Town While Attempting to Evade Police

FURTHER UPDATE: Man Charged with Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm and Dangerous Driving (manner)

The 50-year-old man of George Town who was arrested on Wednesday afternoon (see below press releases) has been charged with Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm and Dangerous Driving (manner).

The man will be brought before the courts this afternoon 8 September.

 

UPDATED:  Update: Man Arrested after Recklessly Driving through George Town While Attempting to Evade Police, 6 September

The man who attempted to evade police yesterday afternoon, 6 September, in George Town, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of cocaine with intent to supply and is currently in Police custody.  The man is 50 years old and is from George Town.

A woman, age 18 of George Town, was a passenger in the vehicle and was also arrested at the scene on suspicion of the same offences.  She is currently on Police bail.

A firearm was recovered at the scene. This is the nineteenth firearm recovered so far this year.

Correction: The vehicle collided into two other cars while attempting to evade police; both of these collisions occurred on Sound Way. The second collision did not occur at the intersection of Shedden Road and North Sound Road as previously stated.

 

Just past 3PM today, Wed 6 September, police had cause to begin following a man driving a white Mercedes Benz in Central George Town.  In the vicinity of Shedden Road and Eastern Avenue the man appears to have noticed he was being followed and began driving recklessly to evade police.  Police activated the emergency lights and siren but the man refused to stop. Along Sound Way the man collided with one vehicle, and on North Sound in the vicinity of Shedden Road he collided with a second vehicle.  No one in either vehicle was injured.

Behind Pasadora Place off Smith Road the Mercedes’ path was blocked by police and the man was arrested.

Investigations continue into the matter.

 

Ganja Recovery in George Town, 5 September

Yesterday morning, 5 September, the Police and Customs carried out a joint operation at a residence in the Windsor Park area of George Town, just after 10:15AM.

During the operation, a large amount of ganja, estimated to weigh approximately 522lbs., was recovered and a 43-year-old man of George Town was arrested on suspicion of importation, possession and possession with intent, and other drug-related offences.

The matter is currently  being investigated by the police.
