Man Threatens Resort Staff and Makes Off with Drugs Recovered from Beach; Later Arrested and Is in Court Today (Wed 27)

Just before 4:30pm on Sunday, 24 December police received a report of drugs washed ashore near a resort in East End.  While officers were en route to the location, it was reported to that a man carrying a machete with his face covered had come to the beach area of the resort, confronted staff, and made off with the drugs in a brown-coloured car.  Some of the drugs were left on the beach, however, which were collected by officers and later determined to be cocaine.

Officers conducted enquiries and arrested a man, age 35 of North Side, later that night in connection with this incident.  The man has now been charged with Robbery, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Supply, and Possession of an Offensive Weapon (Machete). He is due in Court today, 27 December.

 

Vehicle Fire on Hirst Road Last Friday Night, 22 December; Police Investigating Arson

Police are investigating an apparent arson after responding to a vehicle fire along Hirst Road in Newlands last Friday night, 22 December.  The vehicle, a 1999 Red Honda Integra, had been reported stolen in early November.  (see press release below)

Around 9PM on 22 December, the 9-1-1 Communications Centre dispatched police and fire personnel to a report of a vehicle fire on Hirst Road not far from the Marine Base.  The car was ablaze, and after the fire was extinguished by fire officers, it was determined that the car had been stripped of many parts before being set ablaze.

Vehicle Stolen Between 3-5 November

Just before 2PM on Monday, 6 November, police received a report that a vehicle had been stolen from the parking lot of Reflections next to Airport Fosters.

The vehicle, a red 2-door Honda Integra with a black hood, is believed to have been stolen sometime between 3 and 5 November. A picture of a similar vehicle is attached.

The matter is currently being investigated by police officers in George Town.

 

Interdiction of Canoe early Saturday Morning, 23 December with Two Men Arrested; Both Charged and in Court Wed, 27 December

Just before 2:30AM on Saturday morning, 23 December, the Joint Marine and Air Operations Units intercepted a blue-and-white canoe within Cayman waters. Two men on board were arrested and a quantity of ganja seized. Shoreline, air and water checks were carried out later that morning but further parcels that may have been dumped overboard were not recovered.

Both men have been charged with Importation of Ganja. One man, age 48 of George Town, has also been charged with Human Smuggling.  The second man, age 26 of Jamaica, has also been charged with Illegal Landing.  Both are in court today, 27 December.
