Update: Blackbeard’s Robbery Suspects Formally Charged.

The four male suspects arrested in connection with the Blackbeard’s Grand Harbour robbery committed on Wednesday 17th December 2014 have been formally charged.
On Friday 19th December 2014 the four suspects were charged with offences inclusive of Robbery and Firearm offences.

They are due to appear before the court in the coming week.

Cayman Brac Burglary

Officers from the Cayman Brac Police Station are currently investigating a residential burglary in Southside Road East/Aston Reid Drive area. The incident was reported to police just after 7:00am Thursday 18th December 2014. Stolen were four black Sony Bravia TVs, sized as, two 52 inch, one 46 inch and one 32 inch. A quantity of alcohol was also stolen.

The public are asked to contact Chief Inspector Frank Owens at the Brac Police Station on 948 0331 or 516 6100 if they have any information or if they have seen any suspicious persons/vehicles in the area or if they are approached by anyone attempting to sell these items.

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service has been very busy over the last 24 hours, arresting 24 persons for various offences. The holiday season which is in full swing gave cause for members of the RCIPS to step up their vigilance in making this festive season safe.

Overnight arrest saw four persons in custody – arrested on warrants for failing to appear in court; two students from Clifton Hunter High School in Frank Sound were arrested for small amounts of vegetable matter resembling ganja: two persons were arrested in Mount Pleasant West Bay for possession of cocaine, consumption of cocaine; two persons were arrested for disorderly conduct at the George Town Police Station for assaulting police; one male was arrested and reduced into custody for failing to comply with his bail conditions – the offence relates to a theft of a sail boat.

On Cayman Brac a 53 year old male, living in Creek was arrested by officers from the Cayman Brac Police Station for the indecent assault on a young female.

Four male residents of Prospect, George Town age between 21 years – 25 years were arrested by officers following the robbery at Black Beard’s Liquor, Grand Harbour after 7:00pm last Wednesday 17th December 2014. Three males in possession of what, was described as firearms entered the premises and demanded cash. A fourth person was subsequently arrested and the accused persons remain in custody.

Three persons were arrested by offices from the Bodden Town Police Station for DUI they were bailed.

A 35 year old male resident from West Bay was arrested by officers from the West Bay Police Station for assault, occasioning actual bodily harm after an altercation with a family member, he was bailed to return to the WBPS at a later date.

Four Romanian men age 33 years – 42 years were arrested by detectives from RCIPS Financial Crimes Unit (FCU). Two were arrested Tuesday 16th December 2014 and two were arrested Wednesday 17th December 2014 for obtaining property by deception. It is alleged that the accused persons visiting the Cayman Islands for the first time used cloned credit cards (skimmers) to purchase merchandise from local business establishments. The accused persons remain in custody, pending a legal ruling from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Detective Inspector Ian Lavine of the FCU advises local businesses to be vigilant during this festive season, he went on to say. “Persons paying by credit cards should produce a form of identification; sales agents should check that the method of identification matches with the name on the credit card”.

Armed Robbery – Four in Police Custody – George Town

Police officers are presently on the scene of a reported armed robbery at Grand Harbour George Town.

Today, Wednesday 17th December 2014 at 7:41 pm a report was received of an armed robbery at Blackbeard’s Liquor located at Grand Harbour George Town.

Three (3) males in possession of what was described as firearms entered the premises and demanded cash.

No shots were fired. No injuries were reported.

An undisclosed sum of cash was stolen from the cash register. One customer was also robbed of their cell phone and cash.

The offenders left the location in a black SUV type motor vehicle and travelled in an easterly direction. Four males were subsequently arrested in connection with the robbery.

Drug Arrest – Mount Pleasant, West Bay

Just after 6:00am Wednesday 17th Dec ember 2014, detectives from RCIPS Drugs and Serious Crime Task Force (DSCTF)  together with officers from the Operational Support Group (OSU) conducted a search at a Mount Pleasant residence in West Bay, where crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia and cash was recovered.

A 28 year old male and 34 year old female, both residents of West Bay were arrested on suspicion, possession  cocaine, possession cocaine with intent to supply a control drug and consumption of cocaine and possession of a prohibited weapon.

The female was bailed to return to the George Town Police Station at a later date. The male remains in custody.
