Dance Lab takes off at CNCF

The Cayman National Cultural Foundation, CNCF, commemorates and showcases the diversity of the Cayman Island’s Heritage and on Friday 12th, the foundation held a free night of fun and dance dubbed Dance Lab.

The public were encouraged to join in the with the easy dance steps that got everyone grooving to the same tune.

Dance Lab had an easy but strenuous warm up which was followed by a diverse blend of music and
dance genres.

The dance session was conducted at the Harquail Theatre and the organisers were keen to get everyone involved in the wholesome family fun.

African, Caribbean, and Latin American style dance moves were conducted at moderate pace to accommodate all dance and physical fitness levels.

CNCF Managing Director Mrs. Marcia Muttoo said, “Culture Jam is about the sheer elation of discovery during the creative process. It presents an opportunity for artists, young and old, skilled and unskilled, experienced and inexperienced, inhibited and uninhibited to come together and share their creativity in a free, non-judgmental and uncompetitive atmosphere.”

CNCF Artistic Director Mr. Henry Muttoo was in attendance, as well as, actress and CNCF Programmes Manager, Rita Estevanovich.

The evening’s dance session was lead by Mrs. Lorna Reid who is a dance instructor, choreographer, Artistic Director and Founder of the Cayman Islands National Dance Company, Dance Unlimited.

Culture Jam also includes a poetry segment, where local and aspiring writers can share their literature with a live listening audience through a free for all medium called Open Mic. The next Open Mic will take place on September 9th.

The next CNCF event will be the showing of a selection of films from The Travelling Caribbean Film Showcase and it will be featured on August 26th.
