From Travel Daily UK

The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) is encouraging tour operators to attend its Caribbean Marketplace which is being held in January in Puerto Rico as the destination has declared itself officially open for tourism.

In a statement issued by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, the official governing body of the tourism industry, it says that its over three months since Hurricane Maria and that more than 100 hotels are now in full operation alongside 107 major tourist attractions including major sites like Old San Juan, the Castillo San Felipe del Morro and Cueva Ventana.

Frank Comito, director general and CEO of The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association said:

“We are encouraging UK tour operators to attend our annual Caribbean Marketplace, which is being held in January in Puerto Rico. We look forward to supporting this wonderful destination in showing how the Puerto Rican people and the country’s tourism industry have prevailed against recent challenges to get the destination open for tourism.

“It is important for the entire Caribbean region, our industry’s travel partners and those who book travel to the Caribbean to show their support.”

The event takes place from 30 January to 1 February 2018. Details can be found on www.chtamarketplace.com.

Last year’s marketplace attracted 228 supplier companies who met with 113 buyer companies and conducted over 10,000 prescheduled appointments over a two day period.
