Cayman Prep to defend Under 9 and Under 11 titles

DSC_7883PFL Playoffs: Semi Finals Review

Defending Under 9 and Under 11 league champions Cayman Prep are set to defend their titles this Saturday, January 31 as the 2014/2015 CUC Primary Football League (PFL) playoffs conclude with the finals and third-place games.

In the Under 9 Consolation Cup semi finals, Truth For Youth secured their place in the final with a 6-0 victory over Bodden Town Primary as Jayden Wright found the back of the net four times and Tyreese Denton added two. Truth For Youth will face South Sound Schools who overcame a penalty shootout to defeat Triple C 3-2 (0-0 after full and extra time) in what was the ideal game to kick-off the day’s activities.

In the Under 9 Champions Cup, defending champions Cayman Prep booked their second successive trip to the final with a 2-0 win over Red Bay Primary, thanks to two first half strikes from Jahmer Campbell.

Cayman Prep will play Sir John A. Cumber in the final after the boys from West Bay squeezed past Savannah Primary 3-2 following an entertaining sudden death penalty shootout.

Savannah Primary opened the scoring with an Immanuel Duran strike only for Isaiah Woodman to equalise late in the game. Ten minutes of overtime could not settle this exciting encounter as the scored remained at 1-1.

In the penalty shootout, both schools missed two of the three penalties to keep the score level going into sudden death penalties. With Savannah Primary missing their first penalty in sudden death, Sir John A Cumber’s Drequan Kirchman blasted his school into the final and a rematch with Cayman Prep.

In the Under 11 Consolation Cup, Cayman International School defeated Bodden Town Primary 6-0 (mercy rule) and South Sound Schools beat Prospect Primary 3-0 with two goals from Jake Booker and a third from Thiy-Ru Nixon.

In the Under 11 Champions Cup, defending champions Cayman Prep secured their place in the final with a hard fought 1-0 victory over St. Ignatius Prep thanks to a late Nathan Trickett goal. It seems Mr. Trickett has a knack for scoring against his former school.

An undefeated Cayman Prep will face an undefeated Red Bay Primary for the Under 11 title after Red Bay Primary beat Savannah Primary 2-0 thanks to two second half goals from Alejandro Holness.

The finals, third-placed games and trophy presentations are scheduled for this Saturday, January 31 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Annex Field.

In the Under 9 Consolation Cup final, Truth For Youth face South Sound Schools at 9:00 a.m. In the Under 9 Champions Cup third-place game, Red Bay Primary take on Savannah Primary at 9:00 a.m. and Cayman Prep face Sir John A. Cumber in the final at 10:00 a.m. There will be a trophy presentation for the Under 9s immediately following the final.
