Cayman Islands Year 6 student dies at home

Statement from the Ministry of Education and Department of Education Services on the passing of a Year 6 student from Sir John A. Cumber Primary School

On the 20 June 2018 Sir John A. Cumber Primary School (SJACPS) was notified that one of their Year 6 students had passed away at home earlier that morning.  The Ministry of Education, Department of Education Services (DES), and the School offer their sincerest condolences to the family during this most difficult time.

A team from the DES has been deployed to the school which includes the Director Ms. Lyneth Monteith, Senior School Improvement Officer for SJACPS Mr. Ian O’Connor and several Counsellors to offer the necessary support and counselling to the staff and students, especially the Year 6 students and teachers.

Parents/Guardians of SJACPS are asked to pay extra close attention to their children over the next several days, and to notify their child’s teacher or the Principal of any concerns so that the school can provide additional counselling and support.

At about 9:00AM this morning, police received a report of the accidental death of a 10-year-old girl in West Bay. The circumstances of the death are currently under police investigation.

The RCIPS extends its condolences to the family of the deceased.
