UPDATE: Water-Related Death in East End, 19 May

Police can now confirm the identity of the man who died after encountering difficulties while snorkeling off East End on Saturday, 19 May (see below release). He is Peter Stuart Schilke, age 57, of Connecticut in the United States.

The RCIPS offers condolences to the family of the deceased.

On Saturday evening, 19 May, emergency personnel responded to a report of a person in distress in East End.

A man had been out snorkeling when he encountered difficulties. He was assisted to shore by members of the public nearby and then transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital. He subsequently lost consciousness and was later pronounced dead.

The man, age 57, was a visitor from the US.

 

UPDATE: Water-Related Death at Stingray City, 15 May

Police can now confirm the identity of the man who died after being found unconscious while snorkeling at Stingray City on Tuesday, 15 May (see below release). He is Walter Franklin Steele, age 83, of North Carolina in the United States.

The RCIPS offers condolences to the family of the deceased.

Subject: Water-Related Death at Stingray City, 15 May

Shortly before 2:15PM on Tuesday, 15 May, a report was received that a snorkeler had gone missing while snorkeling at Stingray City. Shortly afterwards, the man was found unconscious by a nearby boat and brought onboard. CPR was administered to the man as the boat returned to shore, and, once on shore, the man was immediately transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital by emergency services. He was later pronounced dead.

The man, age 83, was a visitor from the US.
