Cayman Islands to honour teachers on World Teacher’s Day

The Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports, Agriculture & Lands, will honour public and private sector teachers on World Teacher’s Day on Saturday, 5th October at the 7th Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching at the Kimpton Seafire Resort & Spa.

Launched in 2007, the Golden Apple Awards recognises teachers and principals in public and private primary and high schools who have been nominated by their students, parents and peers for their outstanding achievements and contributions both in the classroom and at their respective schools.

Recipients will be announced during a formal ceremony and will receive the award and a cash prize. An educator who has contributed at least 25 years to education will also be announced and will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award in Education.

“Quality teaching is essential to motivate students to learn and to acquire skills that will enable them to transition into the workplace,” says the Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, JP, MLA, Minister of Education, Youth, Sports, Agriculture and Lands. “The Cayman Islands will proudly join others around the world to acknowledge the important role that teachers play in the lives of the communities in which they serve.”

“Teachers contribute tremendously to our society by motivating students to achieve success in the classroom and in life generally,” added Christopher Kirkconnell, President of the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce. “It is important to thank them and to celebrate their achievements and hard work. I encourage parents, students and educators to attend this event and to demonstrate your support for our teachers.”

Early bird tickets are now on sale for the Golden Apple Awards for a limited time only. Those interested in attending to support educators in the community can purchase tickets at www.caymanchamber.ky/goldenappleawards
