Cayman Islands: UPDATED – Senior RCIPS police officer assaulted at the scene of a motor vehicle accident

UPDATE: Men Charged In Assault of Police Officer, Tuesday 17 October 2017

Two Caymanian males, ages 25 and 23 years old, of Bodden Town, were arrested on Saturday 14 October, following an assault on a police officer.

The men were charged this morning, Tuesday 17 October 2017. The 25 year old is charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, while the 23 year old is charged with threatening to cause serious harm and obstructing a police officer in the lawful execution of his duties.

They are expected to appear in court this morning (Tue).

Just before 9:30 PM Sat (14) night, a Superintendent of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, whilst on duty in full uniform,  was seriously assaulted at the scene of a one-vehicle collision that occurred at the Island Heritage round-a-bout, Esterley Tibbetts Highway . The Officer  was transported to the George Town Hospital by ambulance where he has been admitted. He has suffered significant head injuries and bodily injuries.

Two Caymanian males, ages 25 and 23-years-old, both residents of Bodden Town, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and obstructing police in the lawful execution of their duties, respectively.  Both remain in police custody.

The matter is under investigation by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (“CID”).

NOTE:The Superintendent’s injuries are non-life-threatening.
