Cayman Islands sending four swimmers to Gold Coast

The Cayman Islands has announced its selected athletes set to compete the 2018 Commonwealth Games. this April. Of the 22 athletes selected across 7 sports, 4 swimmers will be headed to the Gold Coast.

Both David Ebanks and Lauren Hew competed at the 2014 edition of the Games, with Ebanks’ highest finish coming in the 50m breaststroke where he wound up 19th. He is slated to compete in the 50m and 100m breaststroke again this year. Hew finished 14th in the 50m back and 15th in the 200m back, while also getting on the board in18th position in the 100m back at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She is expected to compete in the 50m free, 200m free, 50m back and 100m backstroke this time around.

Iain McCallum and Alison Jackson are joining the aforementioned in the Gold Coast as well.

Per The Cayman Compass the Cayman Islands first competed in the Commonwealth Games in 1978 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and have competed in every edition of the competition since then. Cayman’s Cydonie Mothersill of track and field won the nation’s lone gold medal in the 200 meters in Delhi 2010.
