Additional Man Charged in 22 May Operation

Late Friday, 16 June, the 35-year-old man from George Town arrested that day was formally charged the following seven (7) offences:-

1. Being Concerned in the Importation of Ganja
2. Possession of Ganja with Intent to Supply
3. Possession of Ganja
4. Assaulting a Police Officer
5. Assaulting a Customs Officer
6. Resisting Arrest
7. Escaping Lawful Custody

These charges arise from a drug operation led by the DSCTF and Customs on 22 May 2017. He remained in Police Custody over the weekend and will appear in Court this morning, Tuesday 20^th June 2017.

 

Man charged with Robbery at Lookout Garden Store in Bodden Town

A 25-year-old man of Bodden Town, was arrested on 14 June, after he attempted to evade arrest following a robbery at the Lookout Garden Store in Bodden Town.

The man was charged on Friday evening 16 June, on 2 counts of Robbery relating to the Lookout Gardens store as well Possession of an Imitation Firearm, Threats to Kill and Reckless and Negligent Act.

He is expected to be in court TUE morning 20 June.

 

Aggravated Burglary – Intruders armed with firearms and a hammer

On Saturday 17^th of June 2017, shortly after 4:30a.m.  911 received a call from a resident of Patrick’s Island that three males, two of which were armed with firearms, and the other with a hammer; had entered their residence and bound them up with duct tape.

The intruders demanded cash and valuables and threatened the victims with bodily harm.  The male resident was assaulted during the incident.

A quantity of cash, jewelry and other valuables were stolen.

After the intruders left, one of the victims were able to free themselves and contacted 911.  Armed officers responded to the scene immediately.

The on-duty Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) was also dispatched.

The victims, though traumatized did not require immediate medical attention.

Officers were able to develop positive lines of inquiries that led to the recovery of items believed to have come from the victims’ residence at another George Town location.

Also, a George Town male, age 22-years-old was arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of aiding and abetting the commission of a crime and is in police custody.

One of the males who entered the Patrick Island residence is described as 5 ft. 9 -10 inches tall, slim built and the other two are described as 5’10”-11” tall and also slim built.

The investigations are been led by Detective Inspector Joseph Wright and the investigative team resourced by detectives of the Criminal Investigations Department and other key personnel.

UPDATE:

Further arrests made in the Aggravated Burglary Incident

Following the arrest of the 22-year-old male shortly after the incident, the RCIPS can now confirm that two other arrests have been made in connection with the Aggravated Burglary which occurred during the early morning hours of Saturday 17^th.

As investigations continued throughout the weekend police have arrested a total of three persons in relation to the incident.  On Saturday morning police also arrested a juvenile of George Town following an motor vehicle accident on School Road.  During a search of the vehicle he was driving certain items were found that led to his arrest. Police has now recovered two vehicles in connection with this investigation; one of them being a Honda Civic which was reported stolen from the Marriott Hotel, West Bay road a few hours earlier to the Aggravated Burglary occurring.

The third is a 39-year-old male of George Town who was arrested this morning shortly after 1:00a.m.  All three males remain in police custody as investigations continue.

Motor vehicles collision along Shamrock Road vicinity Agricola Drive

On Saturday 17^th  of June 2017 at 4:21 am 911 received a call of a two vehicle collision along Shamrock Road in the vicinity of Agricola Drive, Bodden Town. Police , Fire Dept., and Paramedics attended the location and both drivers who were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles were transported to the George Town Hospital.

The accident involved a Honda Accord and a Honda Civic. Both vehicles received extensive damages.

Both drivers remain in hospital, however their injuries are not considered life threatening.

Investigations are ongoing and anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact PC Orville Harris at the Traffic Management Unit at 649-6254 or George Town Police Station at 949-4222.

 

Predawn Operation in Hutland Rd. North Side

During a predawn operation in the Hutland area in North Side officers of the RCIPS recovered a large quantity of ganja from a shed.  However, two males managed to elude capture.

The RCIPS mounted  an operation in North Side early this morning involving firearms officers, K-9, officers from the Drugs and Serious Crimes Task Force and the Police helicopter.  During the operation,  the two males believed to be Jamaican nationals were able to avoid capture.   One is described as being of dark complexion, slim build with dreadlocks and wearing  yellow shirt. The second male is described as dark complexion, about 5’ 10” tall and wearing dark clothing

The RCIPS is maintaining a high police presence including armed officers in the area and are asking the North Side community to contact 911 immediately if they have any sightings of these individuals.  We would also like to remind the public that is a serious criminal offence to provide assistance or support for these individuals.

 

Rocks thrown at the Police

On Thursday afternoon, 15 June, the police made an attempt to speak with a 31-year-old man of George Town, concerning an on-going police investigation. Attempts to speak with the man were met with aggression as the man began throwing rocks at the officers, after which he made good his escape.

Officers of the Drugs and Serious Crime Task Force, later made efforts to locate the man and was successful in doing so. He was arrested and brought in for Common Assault and Assaulting the Police.

The man is currently in police custody as the matter progresses.

 

Suspicious Activity involving a child

A report was made to the police yesterday morning 15 June, by a concerned member of the public stating that a man in a light blue 2 seater van attempted to pick up a young boy who was walking home from the park in West Bay.

The matter is being looked into by the police, and the RCIPS is asking that parents to remind their children, not to accept rides or gifts from strangers, and to inform them immediately of any such attempts.  Also, the police are asking that any similar incidents and sighting be reported to the police.
