Cayman Islands residents urged to join a Flash Mob for Peace

2014 Flash Mob Camana BayThe Family Resource Centre (FRC) urges the Cayman Islands community to become partners in peace on Monday, 21 September 2015.

As it has for the past four years, FRC is set to lead Peace Day celebrations that are set to include a traffic-stopping flash mob in George Town, and peace-building sessions throughout the Cayman Islands

Caymanians and residents will join millions of people around the world to celebrate the international observance that aims to foster a global truce within and between nations, through education, and by strengthening ideals of non-conflict among people of all ages.

As part of Peace Day activities, the public is invited to take part in a flash mob in front of Royal Watler Terminal on Fort Street at 12.00 pm. Participants will dance to the song Heroes, which encourages people to live extraordinary lives and find power within themselves. Dance instruction is available from the YouTube tutorial (one day one dance cayman 2015) or live at Centre Pointe, Alissta Towers, on 13 and 20 September at 5.00 pm.

On Monday evening, every district will take part in peace building sessions that will focus on developing peaceful relationships and communities in a way that organisers describe as fun and interactive.

FRC team members and teens that are members of the ReTHINK TEEN Leadership programme will lead the workshops at Sir John A. Cumber Primary School, Family Resource Centre and Savannah Primary School from 6.00-8.00 pm. Bodden Town Primary School will start at 7.00 p.m. and East End Primary School at 6.30pm. Refreshments will be available.

Part of the Department of Counselling Services, the Family Resource Centre works with families and provides support to those impacted by conflict on a daily basis.

For more information on Peace Day or to take part in the events, contact FRC at tel. 949-0006 or email: [email protected]. Members of the public can also purchase Peace Day t-shirts for $10 and join in the partnership for peace.(GIS)
