Cayman Islands Police: Respond to disturbance at bar on Eastern Avenue/2 thefts in the vicinity of Public Beach

Police Respond to Disturbance at Bar on Eastern Avenue Early this Morning, 24 August

Just past 3AM this morning, 24 August, police responded to a report of a disturbance at Bananas Bar on Eastern Avenue in George Town involving a man with a machete.  While on scene speaking with complainants and witnesses police learned that a fight had begun between two women inside the bar, and expanded to include two men in the bar.  During the course of these fights one woman was struck in the face with a bottle, and a man sustained a serious injury to his hand.

Both the woman and man received treatment at the Cayman Islands Hospital. Police are continuing to investigate the incident, but no arrests have yet been made.

Two Thefts in the Vicinity of Public Beach Reported to Police Yesterday, 23 August

Late yesterday morning, 23 August, police received a report of a beach bag that had been stolen after it was left on the sand while the owner went swimming just north of Public Beach.  The bag contained a quantity of cash and an iPhone, and is described as being rectangular in shape, and turquoise-colored with navy blue-and-while stripes.

Yesterday evening, just past 7:30PM, police received another report of a theft of a bag from Public Beach containing a BLU smart phone and iPhone, as well as car keys and other personal items.

Police are asking the public to try not to leave their belongings unattended while enjoying the beach, and to keep valuables locked away out-of-sight in their vehicles to the extent possible.
