The RCIPS Traffic and Roads Policing Unit Reminds the Public of the Linford Pierson Highway Speed Limit

The RCIPS would like to remind the public the Linford Pierson Highway is a 40 MPH zone. Motorists have recently indicated to police that they are unaware of the speed limit due to the current absence of road signs due to road construction being carried out on the highway. However, the RCIPS would like to point out that there are signs at both ends of the road informing motorists of the speed limit along the highway.

The Linford Pierson Highway has been a 40 MPH zone since its inception and there have been no indications made by the National Roads Authority that the speed limit has changed. The RCIPS would like to remind the public that the onus is on each and every driver to ensure that he or she knows the speed limits of the roads they travel and that they follow the law.

PS Lenford Butler of the Traffic Management Unit states “So far this month there has been over forty five (45) speed related traffic stops along Linford Pierson Highway, most of which took place this week. Some of the speeds recorded were in excess of 70 MPH. Such excessive speed is alarming and we urge the public not to endanger everyone by turning Linford Pierson into a race track.”

Motorists going this fast cannot just be ticketed; this speed exceeds the ticketing threshold and therefore a speeding Traffic Offense Report has to be done and the offender has to go to court, where there is a good possibility that the motorists may lose their license for a period of time.
