Cayman Islands Museum launches commemorative book

Premier receives book PRINTThe Cayman Islands National Museum continued celebrations of its 25th Anniversary by launching a commemorative book at an evening reception on International Museum Day, 18 May 2016.

Entitled “Twenty Five Years Piece by Piece” the book highlights the Museum’s founders, donors and supporters, and especially the artefacts featured in the current exhibition, of the same name.

“This celebration is a chance for us to reflect on the history and achievements of the museum. We house and preserve up to 9,000 items. They are vast in scope, from tiny shells to a 20 foot boat”, says Ms. Debra Barnes-Tabora, Curation & Collections Manager at the Museum.

“The items in the “Twenty Five Years Piece by Piece” exhibition and complimentary book offer a direct connection to the Cayman Islands’ past. We want people to come out and enjoy it, and take ownership of that”

Government officials, Museum staff and supporters attended the book’s launch. Dr. Peggy Leshikar-Denton, Director of the Cayman Islands National Museum welcomed the crowd to the event. At the reception the Premier the Hon. Alden McLaughlin accepted a coil of Silver Thatch rope, as symbolic rent payment for the Old Courts Building, from Museum Board Chairman Alfonso Wright.

Premier receives rope PRINTThe Premier was the first person to receive a copy of the 25th Anniversary commemorative book, which was presented as well to the 25th Anniversary Building Preservation sponsor, Walkers: to Artefact/Exhibition/Publication sponsors :Cayman National Bank, DART Cayman Islands, Family of the late Charles Adams, Health Care Pharmacy, The Kensington Management Group, the Water Authority, Government Information Services and the Public Works Department; and other supporters.

Attendees were invited to tour the museum, including the “Twenty Five Years Piece by Piece” exhibition, enjoyed live musical entertainment by Dennom Bodden and refreshments from the museum’s Caribbean Kitchen at the Old Jail Café.

The book “Twenty Five Years Piece by Piece” can be purchased for $16 at the Cayman Islands National Museum shop.
