Male Voice Choir scintillates

Cayman Islands Male Voice Choir give a scintillating sound performance

By Georgina Wilcox

Despite missing some stalwart singers, including their conductor, the Cayman Islands Male Voice Choir gave another skillful, scintillating, sound performance at their June Gospel Concert on Sunday 24th.

The performance was as usual held at Elmslie Memorial Church on Harbour Drive in george Town.

A good size audience were very appreciative at the singing and musical items that entertained for us for ninety minutes. If that wasn’t enough we were all invited to join them in the church hall for refreshments and general socialising. There we see persons we haven’t seen for a long time.

The choir were under the skilled baton (or waving arms) of Nicky Godfrey. We all joined them at the opening hymn singing “Redeemed”.

Other numbers included “Since Jesus Came Into My heart”, “Love Lifted Me”, “What If It Were Today”, “While Ages Roll”, “Peace Be Still”, and concluded with “”Soon and Very Soon”.

There were solo performances from Wardley Conolly, country singer Roy Bodden and the young but every year getting older Aidan Conolly. There was also a group presentation made up from members of the choir who sang “I Will Sing the Wondrous Story”. Kenneth Melville, minus his saw, sang a duet with conductor Nicky Godfrey.

Then, very near the end we had the icing on the cake, a resounding presentation from New Direction the North Side United Church group who nearly had the audience dancing in the aisles.

The Mater of Ceremonies was John McMillan, the organist Denver Bloomfield and pianist Antonio Sanchez who played a beautiful classical solo during the collection.

Well done Cayman Male Voice Choir. Thank you.
