Cayman Islands John Gray H.S. elevate Breeze Fusion 5K Walk/Run

George Town, GC, November 8, 2018:  Coming off a record setting 2017, the Breeze Fusion 5K Walk/Run was back in action this past Saturday, November 3rd, helping to raise funds for the NCVO and John Gray High School Music Department. 

The community event which has become a staple on the 5K annual circuit saw close to 190 Runners and Walkers, comprised of students to senior citizens from all walks of life register for the annual charity event at Smith’s Barcadere. 

Norma McField, Director of Radio Cayman exclaimed afterwards that it was yet another awesome event and she thanked the participants for supporting the causes that will benefit from the funds.  She said that next year “we hope that it will grow even more, with increase participants and sponsorships”.

Radio Cayman, Deputy Director Paulette Connolly-Bailey said “I was delighted to see the great support again this year and the smiles on everyone’s faces, made me feel joy in my heart that we had accomplished our goal of helping these worthy charities. It was a fantastic morning overall and I can’t wait for next year’s event”.

The event organized by Radio Cayman and Breeze FM since inception in 2007, has supported the National Council for Voluntary Organizations (NCVO), an independent, non-profit, charitable organization which engages in projects to meet the ever-growing needs of the community. Funds from this year’s Grand Cayman race also benefitted the John Gray High School Music Department.  Much to the delight of participants, students from John Gray, performed live beachside following the event. 

The 12th Annual event was made possibly thanks to the numerous contributors including Staff, Race Caribbean, CaymanActive.com and  volunteers including RCIPS, Red Cross, Leos, Lions, along with the generous support of the corporate community, with Yello, Cayman National, Reflections, Roma United S.C., Seaboard Marine, Fine Print, Green Machine, and Fosters.

Yello, Marketing Manager, Melanie Shambaugh stated afterwards “Thank you to the community for joining us all on Saturday at Smith Barcadere to raise money for John Gray High School and NCVO.  What an amazing surprise participants received upon returning to the beautiful beach side finish line. The very talented John Gray High School Band! Our Yello team loved seeing everyone of all ages, as young as ten, come out and support.  We look forward to supporting and participating on the sister island, Cayman Brac, Saturday, November 24th.”

In the community spirit surrounding the Breeze Fusion 5K Walk/Run, a number of MLAs pledged their support of students from their respective district schools, including the Hon. Moses Kirkconnell, Mr. Ezzard Miller, Mr. Alva Suckoo and Mr. Kenneth Bryan.
