Cayman Islands’ Eastern Districts anti-crime activities 29 September – 1 October

This past weekend, 29 September – 1 October, officers in the Eastern Districts began operations to target illegal activities pointed out by residents during last week’s community meeting, specifically gambling and the use of drugs, which often lead to fights and other public disturbances.

On Friday 29 September, the Eastern District Police along with Cayman Islands Customs Agency and the Immigration Department, attended a residence in Manse Road and conducted a search which resulted in the recovery of drug utensils and the arrest of a 35-year-old man of Bodden Town on drug related offenses. The man is currently on Police bail.

Around 6:30PM that evening same day officers were carrying out foot patrols in the area of the Bodden Town Public Beach, where a 47-year-old-man of George Town was searched along with his vehicle that was nearby. A machete was discovered and he was subsequently arrested for possession of an Offensive weapon. He is currently on police bail while the matter progresses.

On Sunday 1 October, just after 5AM, Eastern District officers also carried out a search at a residence on Northward Road which resulted in a 33-year-old-man being arrested on immigration-related offense. On Monday the man was deported to Jamaica.

“We will continue operations like these to target low-level criminal activity that can be a nuisance for law-abiding residents and also lead to more dangerous behaviour,” said Winsome Prendergast, Area Commander for the Eastern Districts. “Drug and gambling activities are just the first of the many priority areas we will be concentrating on in order to address concerns raised by our communities in Bodden Town, East End and North Side.”
