Cayman Islands: DG, Optimists promote childhood cancer awareness

Deputy Governor, Hon. Franz Manderson, Cert. Hon., JP, received the first t-shirt in an ongoing drive to raise childhood cancer awareness, organised by the Optimist Club of Grand Cayman, at the Government Administration Building recently.

Miss Erika Sobers, a student of St. Ignatius School, who designed the t-shirt, presented the first shirt to Mr. Manderson, who described it as “very creative”.

Emblazoned on the back of the shirt, the design features three stylised turtles within a circle embellished by golden yellow pinstripes, since gold is the colour of childhood cancer advocacy.

Miss Sobers explained the three turtles depict the Cayman Islands which is known for its turtles. They also represent the three islands, in which all are united in the fight against childhood cancer.

Optimist Club of Grand Cayman President, Ms Elaine Harris said the T-shirts are available at $20 for adults and $15 children. The Club has identified two recently diagnosed children in need of funding locally, she revealed.

“To learn more about our Club and to donate to this worthy cause or place your order please email:[email protected],” she said.
