Cayman Islands Crisis Centre’s Taya Lounge to host open house

Taya Lounge (teens and young adults), a division of non-for-profit Cayman Islands Crisis Centre, is hosting an open house for the community on September 12th, 2018 to give prospective participants and families the opportunity to find out more about their services.

Taya Lounge Coordinator, Natalie Baldwin said she is looking forward to opening their doors to new and prospective youth. “Taya Lounge, now it our second year, is a welcoming, non-judgmental safe space for at-risk young people aged 14-21,” Ms Baldwin said.

“We offer a safe place for youth that are experiencing problems at home such as domestic violence including physical, sexual, emotional and psychological abuse, loss of a family member, substance abuse or any other problems where they might just need someone to talk to.”

The Taya programme is an after-school certificate based initiative which aims to give youth the tools to become caring, responsible and productive young adults.  The programme has been developed in Cayman and uses the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs to help teens learn healthy life skills.

The open house is Wednesday September 12 from 5:30-7:30pm at Estella’s Place, Crown Square, 2nd floor (Eastern Avenue). Anyone ages 14-21, parents, teachers and families who would like to tour the facility and find out more about the programme are welcome.
