In partnership with the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI), the ‘’ series will take a closer look at the vocational jobs and skilled trades available to young residents and those wanting to try something new.

“When you look at the development in Cayman Islands today it’s phenomenal, and it is obvious that there are plenty of opportunities in the trades,” said .

“We want to encourage Caymanians to learn more about these professions so that they can one day use their hands and minds to develop our Islands. Whether as an electrician, a mechanic, a plumber or as any of the many skilled tradesman they could be, we want young Caymanians to be aware of the careers that they can benefit from.”

The first video in the series provides an overview of the vocational trades that are most common in the Cayman Islands, explaining the benefits of them and showing local tradesman in action.

Video two features Skye Smith, an , who speaks about his experiences working with Corporate Electric, the skills he has developed in the role, and the benefits of working with electric.

Video three focuses on design, with Ajani Anderson of Pooley Cabinets discussing the skills needed to design and install cabinets in homes. He also discusses the projects that have made him proudest since entering his profession.

“One of the most rewarding things about collaborating with the Chamber of Commerce on the video series about technical vocations was getting to meet and interview young Caymanians who are thriving in their pursuit of careers in those areas, said Mr. Ivan Eubanks, Director of UCCI TV.

“Having the chance to get footage of these young Caymanians in the workplace was gratifying as I learned how those businesses function within and for the community.”

“Most of all, I’m happy to be a part of the Chamber’s efforts to bring employers and young Caymanians together. When you see other people working for the common good of our society it makes you want to help out, and when you get the opportunity to do so it gives you a sense of fulfillment,” he added.

The series will shed light on other trades such as plumbing, masonry, carpentry, and tradesmen such as auto-mechanics and air-conditioning mechanics, and more.
