Cayman Islands Batabano Food Festival spices up with Saxon

As the Culinary Capital of the Caribbean, it was fitting that Cayman’s national carnival, Batabano, had a Food Festival that delighted the senses. This year, as the Batabano Food Festival saw a record 27 vendors registered, local insurance company, Saxon, spiced up the Batabano Food Festival as its title sponsor.

“Saxon is pleased to support Batabano’s 2018 Food Festival”, said Brian Williams, CEO of Saxon. “With over 100 nationalities living in Cayman, the Batabano Food Festival is testament to the spirit of Cayman’s history and welcoming heart.”

Held on the same day as the Batabano Street Parade on May 5th – the first Saturday in May each year – the rebranded Batabano Food Festival Presented by Saxon, is the ultimate carnival street food extravaganza held on Cardinal Avenue in downtown George Town. An important part of the Batabano experience, the food festival  displayed a wide variety of local and international cuisine from some of Cayman’s famous local cooks and restaurants.

“The Batabano Food Festival has always been such an important part of the carnival experience in Cayman, for both locals and visitors who all look forward to it every year, so we’re thrilled to announce and welcome Saxon as the Food Festival’s title sponsor this year,” said Batabano Chairperson, Donna Myrie-Stephen.

Starting from around Noon on Saturday May 5th until about Midnight during the Last Lap street dance, Cardinal Avenue and Albert Panton Street was transformed into an extraordinary outdoor foodie event for anyone who just loves Cayman’s best local and Caribbean cuisine. For visiting and local Batabano spectators out on parade day, it was an experience not to be missed. Every year, hundreds of masqueraders and spectators attend this event to enjoy the popular variety of dishes available. Whether you’re a spectator strolling through town awaiting the parade, or a Batabano reveller chipping through, the Batabano Food Festival Presented by Saxon was the place to be.
