Burglary at Cayman Islands Hospital Tue morning, 5 July

Around 4:30AM this morning, Tuesday, 5 July, the 9-1-1 Communication Centre received a report of a burglary-in-progress at Cayman Islands Hospital. Two men dressed in dark clothes were spotted at the rear of the hospital. A uniform police officer in the area quickly responded to the report, and upon his arrival saw one male, dressed in a black, long-sleeve hoodie with his head covered, wearing what appeared to be blue jeans. The man ran towards Smith Road through the hospital parking lot, and the officer pursued him on foot.

During the chase across the parking lot, the man swung a heavy metal object at the officer and also reached for his waistband and threatened to shoot the officer, who was not armed. The officer slowed his pursuit, but still followed the man, who escaped over the fence of a residence near the hospital.

The Patient Financial Service Department had been entered, however, it appears that the burglars had been disturbed and nothing was taken.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call George Town CID at 936-7512. Anonymous tips can be provided via the Miami-based call centre of Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS), or online at the link: https://www.tipsubmit.com/WebTips.aspx?AgencyID=681.
