Cayman: BritCay Scholarship helps Caymanian student

Twenty-year-old Jacie Mascarenhas is a step closer to reaching her career goal after receiving a USD $25,000 scholarship from British Caymanian Insurance Company Limited (BritCay).

“This scholarship allows me to continue my tertiary education at Texas Christian University, a place which I can call home,” said Jacie.

“With this education, I am closer to reaching my goal of becoming an actuary. The opportunities provided through the BritCay Scholarship will help me learn more about the insurance field, as well as, get hands-on experience.”

She added: “To be the recipient of such an award is an honor to my family who have made countless sacrifices to get me to where I am today.

“I’m so grateful that I’m able to repay them for all their efforts. I know I have made them all proud, and I know my mom is smiling down on me from above.”

Jacie, who comes highly recommended by her college professors, has accumulated several awards throughout her secondary and tertiary career including the Outstanding Lieutenant Governor Award and Most Improved Division Award at the 2017 Key Club Conference. She graduated from the Triple C School as valedictorian with a 4.24 GPA, and has already made the Texas Christian University, College of Science and Engineering Dean’s List three times.

“We had some outstanding students who applied this year and it was a very difficult decision to make,” noted BritCay Human Resources Manager Audrey Prendergast. “We are delighted for Jacie and we are sure she will go a long way in her career.”

The BritCay Insurance Scholarship is awarded annually and is worth USD $25,000 per annum for up to two years for Caymanians or permanent residents with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher who are undergraduate students entering their second or third year at an accredited university. It specifically targets students pursuing undergraduate studies in actuarial science, business or commerce, economics, insurance, mathematics or risk managementJacie is the first recipient.
