COUVA, Trinidad & Tobago – Haiti and Cuba will meet in the final of the Caribbean qualifying competition for the 2017 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship after posting victories over Curacao and Jamaica, respectively, on Friday at Ato Boldon Stadium.

Each of the four semifinalists had previously earned berths to the CONCACAF event, which will be played in Panama from April 21-May 7, 2017. The field also include the host nation, Canada, Mexico, Suriname, the United States and three yet-to-be-determined Central American sides.

In the opener, after Luchenthly Vrutaal’s 11th minute penalty kick gave Suriname an initial lead, Haiti scored three unanswered goals for a 3-1 win. Steeve Selso Saint-Duc leveled in the 14th minute with his team-high fourth goal of the tournament, while Steeve Mondestin netted what proved to be the game-winner from the penalty spot in the 71st minute. Louidon Casseus added an insurance goal with two minutes left in normal time.

Cuba improved to 4-0-0 – the only team in the competition with a perfect record — thanks to a 1-0 triumph over Jamaica. Brian Savigne extended his scoring streak to three games, netting in the 59th minute for his team-best fourth goal. Jamaica played the last 27 minutes a man down following Jamoi Topey’s ejection for a pair yellow cards.

Ato Boldon Stadium will also be the venue for the last day of play on Sunday as Curacao and Jamaica meet for third place, followed by the Haiti-Cuba decider.
