From charity events in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a special visit from one of today’s biggest style and beauty icons to a series of family friendly events in remembrance of Canadian hero Terry Fox and the island’s biggest Halloween party —there is always something happening at Camana Bay.

“Seed-to-Table” Kids Cooking Classes at Bon Vivant

Learning to cook is a skill your children can use for the rest of their lives. Bon Vivant and Fitness Connection are holding a series of kids cooking classes that use ingredients from Camana Bay’s Weekly Farmers’ Market to create healthy recipes that are easy and delicious. Terry Fox Moonlight & Movies

Join Camana Bay and the Cayman Islands Cancer Society for a special Moonlight & Movies event to honour Canadian cancer-amputee hero Terry Fox – who at 21 years-old, attempted to run across-country to raise funds for cancer research – and support his 32-year legacy for the cause. Learn the story behind the young hero through a series of inspiring short films, I Had a Dream and Remembering Terry Part I and II, shown under the stars in Gardenia Court. Terry’s Marathon of Hope took place in 1980; the athlete ran an average of 26 miles every day for 143 days until he was forced to end his run on September 1, 1980 when the cancer spread to his lungs. In accordance with Terry’s wishes, this event is open to the public and donations are suggested. All proceeds will benefit the Cayman Islands Cancer Registry to further data collection and cancer research on-island.

Kitchen Possible: Mommy Cooking Classes at Bon Vivant

Terry Fox 5K Run/Walk

Follow in Terry’s footsteps and take part in a 5K family fun run around the Town Centre to commemorate the Canadian cancer-amputee hero’s Marathon of Hope. There is no registration fee and donations are suggested. Pre-registration can be made at the Terry Fox Moonlight & Movies event on Thursday 4 October, The Discovery Centre on The Paseo, online at CamanaBay.com or on event day from 6am. The race will start on Market Street at 6:30am and all proceeds will benefit the Cayman Islands Cancer Registry to further data collection and cancer research on-island.

Cultural Workshop: Create Your Own Comic Strip with Lady Rabia Abdul-Hakim

Children ages 8-12 are invited to join local artist Lady Rabia Abdul-Hakim for a Comic Strip-making Workshop. Lady Rabia is a local character developer and the creator of Cayman’s first family entertainment property, Kaa Kaa & Tokyo. Kids will be given step-by-step-instructions as they learn techniques to create comic strips, including story development, character generation, background ideas and cartoon action symbols. 2nd Annual Dress Pink! Day at Camana Bay

Camana Bay will host its second annual Dress Pink! Day in support of the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens breast cancer awareness campaign. Everyone is encouraged to participate by wearing a shade of pink and the first 100 people to arrive in pink will enjoy a complimentary glass of Fantinel Rose champagne courtesy of Cayman Distributors. There will be special store discounts and volunteers from the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens will be on hand to receive donations. Department of Environment Underwater Documentary Series

Camana Bay, Hollywood Theaters and The Cayman Islands Department of Environment (DoE) present a series of documentary screenings that highlight the dangers posing threat to our beautiful underwater environment. Each screening is free and open to the public and a limited number of tickets will be available for collection from The Discovery Centre on The Paseo.

Saturday 20 October 11am: Sharkwater Filmmaker Rob Stewart debunks the popular stereotype of sharks and reveals a species key to the evolution of the seas.

Saturday 27 October 11am: Changing Seas: Grouper Moon Researchers from the Reef Environmental Education Foundation and the Cayman Islands Department of Environment study one of the last great reproductive populations of the Nassau Grouper. After the showing, DoE representatives will be on hand to answer any questions.

Musicians’ Showcase

Don your dancing shoes and get ready to move, Musicians’ Showcase is here again! Join us on The Crescent for a festive free concert featuring local musicians Bona Fide and Little Magic, and a local art display by the Visual Arts Society. Every month, Musicians’ Showcase supports a different local charity or organisation. This month’s Showcase will benefit the Cayman Islands Red Cross, a volunteer-led humanitarian organisation that helps people to prepare for, respond to and recover from crisis. Come learn more about the organisation, have fun and show your support for a worthy cause!

Amy Martin-Friedman Book Signing and Presentation

Join photographer Amy Martin-Friedman and the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre for the launch of A Day in My Shoes—Grand Cayman. This beautiful coffee table book tells the inspiring stories of local women who have overcome domestic abuse and features stunning images of each lady in her favourite pair of shoes. Friedman’s A Day in My Shoes series has covered cities across the U.S. and benefited a variety of charitable organisations. Camana Bay Aquatic Club 2nd Annual Spooky Splash Swim Meet

With Halloween just around the corner, get into the swim of things with the Camana Bay Aquatic Club at their annual Spooky Splash Swim Meet. The Spooky Splash features seven race events in the 10 and under and open categories: 50-metre butterfly, 50-metre backstroke, 50-metre breaststroke, 50-metre freestyle, 100-metre freestyle, 100-metre backstroke and 200-metre individual medley. There will also be four 25- metre races in the six and under age group: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. The meet is open to all swimmers and will be dressed around a Halloween theme, with a few surprises in store for participants. Warm-up will start at 7:30am and the meet starts at 8:30am. Drum Circle

Professional drummers Randy Chollette, Damion Thaxter and Eden Hurlston of the musical group I AM PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE bring the Town Centre to life with a jam session featuring African, Cuban and Caymanian rhythms. The group was formed to promote brotherhood, unity and cultural development through the integration of music. Members of the public are invited to join in with their own instruments and will be given pointers throughout the session. So bring your instrument if you’d like to jam, bring your voice if you want to sing, or simply listen and enjoy an evening of rhythm and beats!

The Cayman Islands Humane Society is holding a series of road shows on The Paseo, where visitors can meet and greet the shelter’s adorable and friendly residents. Live on The Paseo

Friday 5 October 7-10pm: Regeneration Band entertains audiences with an eclectic mix ranging from Motown, R&B and Disco to Reggae, Soca and Country.

Friday 12 October 7-10pm: DJ Alexi will have the crowd up and dancing as he spins the latest beats.

Friday 19 October 7-10pm: Bona Fide will sooth listeners with their smooth blend of Motown, Jazz, Reggae, Calypso and Soca.
