Four people have been seriously injured after a car crashed into the crowd during the Caribbean Motor Racing Championships.

One woman was caught underneath the vehicle after the car skidded out of control at the race in Trinidad.

The incident took place during one of the final laps of the contest and saw a car hit another at high speed before becoming airborne and landing on spectators.

Video footage of the accident shows one of the cars in the race slamming into the tyre barrier before coming to a halt.

However less than a second later, another vehicle slides off of the track at the same point, mounts the first car and soars towards the crowd.

The crash was caught on camera

Spectators can be heard screaming as the heavy car slams into where they are stood.

In another clip of the scene, children can be heard crying for their parents and several injured spectators are seen unconscious on the ground.

A large group of people also work to push the car off of a woman who was left trapped beneath it.

According to cnc3, the driver was among the four injured during the accident.

Three people were later taken to the Arima hospital and one other – a woman who was trapped – was rushed to Mount Hope hospital for emergency treatment.
