Norman Lear to speak at Cayman Islands TEDxLIVE@UCCI
Norman Lear, television producer so such hit shows as “All in the Family,” “Good Times,” “Maude,” “Sanford and Son” and “The Jeffersons” will be among the simulcasted speakers at TEDxLIVE@UCCI between 8:00 p.m. and 9:45 p.m.
At 93, Mr. Lear claims, “I’m not the retiring type because inside, I’m just a boy.” He’s still pitching ideas for television shows and considers himself an activist. “I had a front- row seat at the birth of television; wrote, produced, created or developed more than a hundred shows; had nine on the air at the same time; founded the 300,000-member liberal advocacy group People for the American Way; was labeled the “No. 1 enemy of the American family” by Jerry Falwell; made it onto Richard Nixon’s “Enemies List”; was presented with the National Medal of the Arts by President Clinton; purchased an original copy of the Declaration of Independence and toured it for ten years in all fifty states…”
As a strong supporter of First Amendment rights and progressive causes, Mr. Lear has won a coveted spot on the TED 2016 stage, and people in Cayman can hear his words of wisdom without travelling to Canada and paying thousands of dollars.
