Jamaica: Butchered 3-y-o St Ann girl identified, cops search for male neighbour

From Inside Breaks

The 3-year-old girl, who was found dead with multiple chop wounds after she went missing on Sunday morning, July 10 in St Ann, has been identified.

She is Nevalesia Campbell of Orange Hill, Brown’s Town in the parish.

Residents of the community and the police officers are now searching for a male neighbour who has been fingered as a suspect in the gruesome murder.

Reports are that Nevalesia and her twin brother were put to bed by their mother at around 10:30 pm on Saturday night. The little girl awoke at about 11 pm and asked for some water to drink. She was given the water and she lay with her mother on the bed. Nevalesia’s mother later fell asleep.

Further reports are that at about 1:30 am, Nevalesia could not be found by her mother anywhere in the house.

The mother later made a report to the Brown’s Town police at about 2 am Sunday morning.

According to acting head of the St Ann Police, Superintendent Gary Francis, residents and the police carried out an extensive search of the area.

Young Nevalesia’s body was later found in a precipice with multiple chop wounds all over the body sometime after 9 am.

Several statements have since been collected from relatives and neighbours.

While no motive has yet been established for the gruesome murder, Supt Francis is appealing to the residents to come forward with any information that can assist the police in solving the crime.

In the meantime, a search is now underway for a neighbour who some residents strongly believe is the alleged murderer behind young Nevalesia’s death.
