Cayman: George Town man formally charged with Six Offences in relation to firearm related incident

A 30-year-old-man of George Town who was arrested on Friday 12 May in relation to firearm offence as well as several other traffic related offenses has since been formally charged by the police with six offences:

Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm

Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm (Ammunition)

Causing Fear or Provocation of Violence

Possession of Ganja

Dangerous Driving (manner)

Failing to Stop.

He is expected to appear in court on Tuesday 16 May.

Initial Release: 12 May

Shortly after 2:00AM this morning, 12 May, officers responded to a report that a man in Central George Town was believed to be in possession of a firearm. Officers located the vehicle the man was driving and used sirens and lights to signal him to stop, however he refused to comply with the officers’ instructions. He continued driving and subsequently collided with the wall of a store on North Church Street.

The man was detained by officers and the vehicle was searched. During the search officers recovered a loaded handgun. The man, age 30 of George Town, was transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and subsequently arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and other offenses.

He remains in custody as investigations continue.
